How do we start the evening off?

Get dancing! However, if the occasion is a wedding, there are several other possibilities and choices. . . .
The dancing can indeed get under way immediately, at the agreed start time OR sometimes “newly weds” ask if they can start the evening party by dancing together to a favourite track of recorded music. If this is your choice, let the band know beforehand if they need to bring along a CD player, then remember to bring along your chosen CD, and tell the band your specific track requirements on the night. A word of warning - be prepared to be more scared dancing “on show” than you thought you would . . . . !

Occasionally, couples even learn a dance routine to open the evening party and impress their guests – in which case the track of music should be brought along and given to the band to play on their CD player. Do make a note to bring it on the night, or all that dance routine practice may be wasted. . . .! I’ve seen one couple do an amazing Cha-Cha routine. Another couple had rehearsed a fabulous Salsa routine – good enough for Come Dancing – but this is the exception to the rule – don’t be daunted . . . .

For some people, the very thought of dancing alone is terrifying, naff, awful, a total no-no – So you’ll be pleased to know that since it’s YOUR DAY – there’s NO obligation whatsoever to dance alone. It really is OK if you prefer not to make a thing of the first dance, and just get into the Ceilidh with the Caller leading EVERYONE through the first dance.
All of these alternatives are fine.
